CEC donates furniture to new Ndeke Village Police Station

Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) has handed over an assortment of office furniture to the Zambia Police Service for the new Ndeke Village Police Station in Kitwe, which is set to be commissioned in April 2015.

The donation, worth K35,000, was made at a ceremony held on 12 March 2015 in Kitwe and witnessed by various community representatives that included the local Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee, Bupe Ward Councilor, John Chilupula, Kamfinsa Member of Parliament, Moses Chishimba and Kitwe District Commissioner, Elias Kamanga.

The Zambia Police Services representative, Ms. Lizzie Peter Machina, said that the police station had set for itself standards for upholding a clean and representable operational environment and that by donating good quality furniture, CEC had not only tremendously helped to resource the new police station, but had also contributed to upholding those standards.

Machina thanked CEC for the assistance and assured the community that the Police Service was equal to the task of maintaining law and order and was committed to upholding the principles of community policing that required mutual trust and partnership among various stakeholders, inclusive of corporate entities such as CEC, in crime prevention and containment.

In appreciation of the contribution, Member of Parliament for Kamfinsa Constituency, Moses Chishimba, said by donating the furniture to the new police station, CEC had once again lived up to the expectation of Ndeke community as an all-weather partner that had in the past contributed to several projects of great value to the community.

Kitwe City Mayor, Councilor Kelvin Sinyangwe, applauded CEC for its continued support to the city and Ndeke area in particular through its contributions to various initiatives and causes.

“It is on record that this is not the first time that CEC is assisting this community, given the support that the Company has provided to other projects, which include rehabilitation and refurbishment of Ndeke Police Post, improved water supply to the mini hospital and, of course, the Ndeke – Nkana East Link Bridge which the Company financed at great cost. The bridge forms a significant part of the new road that has proved very beneficial as an alternative road in and out of the Central Business District of our great city,” observed Sinyangwe.

Sinyangwe observed that partnership between public institutions, the community and corporate entities had great potential to realize beneficial results for citizens.

“The provision of social services by the Government to all its citizens is one of the most daunting, yet very necessary, tasks to support social and economic prosperity. To achieve great things, partnership between the government, the community and corporate entities is very important, and when each party plays its role, greater things such as we are witnessing today are realised,” said the Mayor.

CEC Managing Director, Owen Silavwe, said CEC attached great importance to public safety and security and recognised the Zambia Police Service as a key partner in advancing the cause, hence, the Company’s continued partnership in various other related projects such as the rehabilitation and refurbishment of Ndeke Police Post in the same area.

“Any effort aimed at taking police services closer to the people represents several steps closer to improved crime prevention and control as well maintenance of public peace and order,” said Silavwe.

Silavwe said CEC shared in the joy of a growing and developing city and stood ready to contribute to social services such as policing that were needed in expanding areas such as Ndeke.

“As CEC steadily grows into a Pan-African power developer, our strong foundation is firmly anchored here at home, therefore, our commitment to local communities remains unwavering and informs our corporate social responsibility philosophy,” assured Silavwe.
