CEC delivers K1.7 million COVID-19 testing boost

CEC has delivered the 4,000 test kits and reagents valued at K1.7 million that the Company pledged to the government on 25 April 2020.

The donation was presented to the Zambia National Public Health Institute Director-General, Prof. Victor Mukonka by the CEC Board Vice Chairman, Mr. Reynolds Bowa, in Lusaka on 19 May.

Mr. Bowa reiterated CEC’s rationale for rendering support to the government; noting that test kits were an absolute necessity in the fight against the pandemic.

“It’s important that senior ministry officials become aware that the test kits and reagents have been already delivered to the Medical Stores and can now be integrated into the national response,” stated Mr. Bowa.

He added that CEC remained committed to assisting the Ministry of Health and the country in general because “we realise that we won’t be able to do business if our health is compromised so at this point, the attention to COVID-19 is the primary occupation of us all.”

The kits, able to return 376 sample results in two hours, were pledged three weeks ago and came in within the stated period.
