Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Public Consultation (Scoping) Meeting Notice

The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) owns and operates a 66kV sub-transmission infrastructure in Ndola, which is supplied from the Company’s 220/66kV Maposa substation, located about half way between the cities of Kitwe and Ndola. CEC plans to extend this 66kV network from Ndola Refinery substation to Dangote cement plant in Masaiti District. The purpose of the project is to enable CEC to expand its power supply services by allowing the extra capacity at Dangote power station (owned by Dangote Industries Zambia Limited) to be supplied into the grid and/or the Dangote cement production facility to obtain power from the grid.

In compliance with the Zambian environmental regulations and appropriate international best practice, CEC will undertake an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) study, and prepare an Environmental and Social Impact Statement (ESIS), as well as a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for consideration by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.

As part of the ESIA, CEC invites government agencies, local authorities, local traditional leadership, non-government organisations, community-based organisations, relevant stakeholders, interested parties, affected communities and individuals to public consultation (scoping) meetings to air their views on the proposed project/activities. CEC will receive all views for consideration in the determination of the scope of works of the ESIA and RAP study.

The venue for the first public consultation meeting is Masaiti District Council Chamber.
Date: 29th August, 2017. Time: 10:00 hrs

The venue for the second public consultation meeting is Sungabukanda Camp, near Sungabukanda Primary School in Chief Chiwala’s area, Masaiti District.
Date: 2nd September, 2017. Time: 10:00 hrs
