Invitation for bids | Market survey for biodiesel & by-products

The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) is an independent power transmission and distribution company with interests in closely linked businesses, including optic fibre based telecommunications, in Zambia and the African region.

CEC has a fully operational Renewable Energy Unit, whose core business is sustainable energy. The unit has an operational biodiesel plant located within the CEC complex, which unit currently produces diesel from jatropha curacas derived oil and soya beans. Raw vegetable oil jatropha and soya beans are purchased from small–scale farmers and animal feedstock producers.

The biodiesel plant has a production capacity of 1 million litres per annum.

CEC intends to undertake a market study for the biodiesel and by-products from the Biodiesel Refinery Unit.

The objective of the study is to provide information regarding Zambia’s biodiesel and its by-products market potential by clearly identifying potential clients and their estimated products uptake. The study will also examine the willingness and ability of the market to cover the transportation costs of the biodiesel and by-products (cake and glycerol).

CEC now invites sealed bids from qualified and competent consultants to undertake a market study for biodiesel and biodiesel by-products.

More specifically, the study will:

  • Conduct a market demand survey for potential clients, regarding their product preferences, location preferences for product distribution, and willingness and ability to pay (cost analysis);
  • Develop recommendations for improving product demand;
  • Project the overall product demand;
  • Identify the major market players, their key differentiators and what drives their sales and performance;
  • Identify appropriate distribution locations and product requirements (quality, additives and packaging) for marketing;
  • Develop a market outreach plan for potential customers.

Eligible and interested bidders may obtain further information and purchase the tender documents from the Senior Procurement Officer,  23rd Avenue, Nkana East, Kitwe, Zambia and telephone number 0212 244255. The bidding document can also be accessed on CEC website: www.cecinvestor.com. However, electronic offers will not be accepted.
