We invite applications from suitably qualified and innovative individuals to take up the position of Drafter – Civil/Mechanical to be based in Kitwe.
The successful candidate will be required to design and produce Civil, (Architectural), Structural (steelwork & concrete) and mechanical drawings to facilitate construction, fabrication, maintenance of company infrastructure and other engineering projects (Capital & routine). This role will be reporting to the Senior Drafter – Civil/Mechanical.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct preliminary site investigations in conjunction with the Design Engineers and Project Managers to undertake project/works conceptual/engineering requirements so as to facilitate the preparation of accurate working drawings.
- Interpret manufacturer supplied design/working drawings for the purposes of fabrication, construction & erections of equipment by referring to VTI (Vendor Technical Information, manufacturers of equipment operating manuals and specifications) to meet project requirements.
- Prepare schematic/preliminary design layouts for review by project managers and engineers in compliance with international standards e.g (BSI) and other codes of practice.
- Prepare 3-D perspectives or modeling to enable all stakeholders appreciate the concepts of the proposed project/maintenance works using relevant computer aided software and/or models.
- Prepare detailed working drawings with sufficient information to enable project managers/engineers derive cost estimates for projects or maintenance works using computer aided software.
- Produce construction drawings with adequate and less ambiguous information to enable contractors expedite site works without delays. Additional costs caused by insufficient information.
- Prepare As-built drawings for all maintenance works and projects.
- Work and liaise with project managers and engineers in the preparation of cost estimates for maintenance works and projects through provision of detailed materials specifications/materials list on relevant drawings to facilitate the preparation of project/maintenance budgets.
- Conduct plant/site visits to ensure and advise contractors or site teams to adhere to construction drawings unless express design changes have been made and approved by authorized project team members.
- Update drawings on a continuous basis to capture any new alterations/developments on site by preparing As-built drawings in accordance with site changes or modifications.
- Work and liaise with contractors/site teams in interpreting working drawings on maintenance and projects as required.
- Work and liaise with stakeholders in interpreting survey layout drawings by providing information relating to company property boundaries, way leaves etc. in compliance with Local authority building regulations & bylaws.
- Undertake any other jobs that may be added from time to time as assigned by supervisor.
- Undertake and complete given assignments within allocated time frame to avoid unnecessary overtime.
- Ensure that all company resources under the section are used solely for company purposes and that there is no misuse of assets such as materials, drawings implement, etc.
- Work and liaise with Snr Drafters and Chief Drafter in ensuring that works comply with international standards e.g., BSI/BS, IEC specifications etc. & SHE company policy.
- Work and liaise with Snr Drafters/Chief Drafter in ensuring that current, new employees & vacation students receive adequate training and development (use of AutoCAD software, Drawing Boards & drawing office management technology) as they pass through the drawing office to enable them to reach desired levels of competence in their disciplines in accordance with the Company development program and requirements.
- Work and liaise with Senior Drafter and Chief Drafter with the help of IT department in ensuring that the integrity of the drawings database is always kept so that there is easy extraction or/access to drawings whenever required by customers both local and external.
To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:
- Grade 12 school certificate.
- Minimum Diploma in Civil/Architectural or Mechanical Engineering or Technical Certificate in Mechanical/Civil/Structural/Fabrication Engineering with 5 years’ experience in Engineering Drafting.
- Design Drafting Certificate (CAD) in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge and experience of 2D/3D drawing software e.g., AutoCAD/ArchiCAD etc.
- 3-5 years’ experience in Civil/Mechanical Design/Drawing Office environment.
