CEC Career Opportunity: CAPEX Engineer

Grade: CEC 6 | Contract Type: Permanent | Location: Kitwe

This role is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, review and evaluating the implementation of the Company CAPEX programs. The successful candidate will undertake Project Management assignments in the Directorate. The position will report to the Manager – Project Planning.

Key Accountabilities

  • Update Company Ten Year CAPEX Program.
  • Coordinates ranking of PEPs for the yearly CAPEX program.
  • Assist project managers in formulation of departmental implementation plans.
  • Compile yearly CAPEX Implementation Plan.
  • Support Project Managers in the preparation of PEPs, CAPEX requisitions and any other CAPEX related Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) processes.
  • Assist Project Managers in the formulation of relevant Project Documents.
  • Monitor project schedules, costs, and scope and verify that variations are raised for any changes.
  • Monitor and review the updating of various relevant project documents and devise remedial actions in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Advise and support Project Managers on Project Management processes.
  • Support satisfactory closure of projects by providing guidance to Project Managers on commissioning and decommissioning processes.
  • Generate and Submit CAPEX Progress Report monthly.
  • Generate Monthly Exception reports and make follow-ups to close issues in the Exception reports.
  • Promote coordination among stakeholders by arranging, attending, and participating in CAPEX meetings with stakeholders.
  • Undertake project implementation evaluations at defined implementation stages and confirm the delivery of project objectives.
  • Generate and Submit Lessons learnt Reports.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders in the Identification and management of Risks associated with the CAPEX program and propose mitigation measures.
  • Update CAPEX risk register.
  • Promote and actively participate in the directorate SHEQ management program.
  • Develop project objectives.
  • Review project proposals and plans in consultation with management.
  • Support adherence to project schedules by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities and resolving issues.
  • Undertakes project management assignments in the role of Project Manager or project team member as dictated by prevailing circumstances.

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Relevant Engineering Discipline.
  • Three Years’ experience in Project Engineering/Management or Asset Management, CAPEX management.
  • Ability to apply Project Management knowledge/principles.
  • Understand the role of projects as a tool used by management in the implementation of strategic objectives.
  • Ability to design a system, or process, analyze and interpret information to meet desired needs within realistic constraints.
  • Ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  • Ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  • Possess working knowledge/ and or basic understanding of contracts used in CEC like The FIDIC Forms.
