CEC Career Opportunity: Manager – HR Operations (01)

Grade: CEC5 | Contract Type: Permanent | Location: Kitwe

This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day HR operations and the successful execution of HR plans and processes that are aligned to the departmental and overall Company strategy whilst driving an efficient and optimal employee experience. The job holder will be reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyse and understand the Company’s medium and long-term business plans and ensure that HR strategic objectives are always aligned to the Company’s business agenda.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, tracking and evaluation of the HR business strategy in liaison with the HR team members and other business functions.
  • Develop initiatives that will support the attainment of HR strategies.
  • Provide expertise to all directorates/departments regarding all HR functions and matters related to recruitment and selection, performance management, training and development, employee relations and compensation in line with the corporate objectives.
  • Partner with functional heads to ensure that people management in all departments is successfully carried out i.e. the process of talent development through coaching/mentoring by managers, motivating and directing employees to optimize workplace productivity and promoting professional growth.
  • Ensure that all employees are fully informed about all HR policies and procedures including any standing instructions.
  • Identify trends/patterns pertaining to requests and needs that are brought out during engagements with departments and initiate change to continually improve all aspects of HR service delivery.
  • Maintain a proper record of all HR policies and procedures and ensure effective communication and interpretation to all employees.
  • Ensure that all HR policies and procedure are up to date and in line with existing legislation and current best practices.
  • Produce HR metrics in order to determine the value and effectiveness of HR strategic initiatives that are implemented to support the attainment of Company objectives.
  • Submit accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reports pertaining to HR operations in order to keep management informed on all human capital matters and interventions.
  • Maintain the integrity and up to date employee information in HRIS and physical/digitized records, such as employee personal files and documented processes.
  • Monitor, control and manage financial planning and expenditure in order to maximize the Company’s return on HR operations.
  • Ensure that subordinates are competent to deliver their performance commitments by arranging necessary training and assisting them in the implementation of the development plans.
  • Visibly promote a positive HSE & risk management culture and demonstrate behaviour in line with Company’s HSE policies and standards.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Degree in Social Sciences, Human Resources Management, Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years in Human Resources Management, of which at least 3 years’ experience was gained in a managerial HR role and context of similar complexity.
  • Good know-how and understanding of the Zambian labour laws and governance framework.
  • Full Membership of ZIHRM.

Specific Competencies

  • A demonstrated thought leader in the understanding and application of human resources in a corporate context.
  • Extensive understanding of HR processes and systems.
  • Extensive background of working within the electrical, extractive or similar industry, and understanding of the technical disciplines – specifically Projects, Processing, Business Improvement, and Information Management.
  • Business acumen demonstrated in similar complex business environments, with a knowledge and understanding of social, political, environmental, and cultural influences in those environments.
  • Good skills in influencing and working with senior leaders across a multitude of disciplines.
