CEC gives USD25,000 to Zambia Open 2015
Mopani/Redpath Zambia Open 2015 golf tournament is USD25,000, thanks to the Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) and its commitment to sports development in Zambia.
CEC made the donation to Mopani Copper Mines, the Company’s second largest customer and joint title holders of the tournament with Redpath Mining at a ceremony held on 9 April 2015 at the refurbished and plush Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.
CEC Chief Projects Officer, Aaron Botha, observed that well organised and rewarding tournaments such as the Zambia Open played an important role in promoting sports development in the country, and afforded locally grown talent opportunities for exposure that could help them to courageously and professionally emerge among the world’s top golfers.
“As a corporate citizen committed to promoting sports development in Zambia, CEC endeavours to spread its support across various sporting disciplines, golf included, in appreciation of the various talents our communities are endowed with; as we believe in the potential of our sportsmen and women in these communities to craft good, rewarding and illustrious careers to the pride of the nation,” said Botha.
Tournament organising committee Chairman, Emmanuel Mutati, thanked CEC for coming on board to support Mopani’s efforts to put up the best ever Zambia Open golf tournament that will bring pride to the Copperbelt and the city of Kitwe.
He said the contribution would significantly help to meet the various logistical needs that came with hosting an event of that magnitude.
“We are now about 95% away from our budget of over USD1 million,” revealed Mutati.
The tournament that tees off on 20 April 2015 has so far been billed as the richest ever with local and international golfers expected to compete for the highest purse money of USD300,000 in addition to prizes for all the four hole-in-ones at numbers 3, 7, 11, and 15 to which four vehicles have been contributed by Toyota and Yeti Motors respectively.
