CEC, Mopani and others give Mwekera bridge to the community
CEC, working with Mopani Copper Mines Plc and other partners on the Mwekera rebuilding project, have today handed the bridge over to the Kitwe East community, through the Kitwe City Council.
The Mwekera bridge was washed away earlier in the year, affecting the socio-economic livelihood of more than 5,000 residents of the Zamtan and Kaloko areas of Kitwe East.
The community was urged to ensure the bridge is used properly and protected from vandalism for it to remain sustainable.
CEC partnered with Mopani and Copperbelt Development Foundation Limited to repair the bridge. Truck Mechanical and Mama Africa later joined the project as partners.
Acting Managing Director, Christopher Nthala, represented CEC at the handover.
