CEC Vacancies | Electrician – (CEC9) (x2); Technicians (CEC 9) – Civil Maintenance (x1); Mechanical Maintenance (x1)

We currently have career opportunities, to be based at our Head Office in Kitwe, in the following fields:

1. Electrician – (CEC9) (x2)

The job holder will be responsible for repairing and maintaining the electrical system forming part of the Gas Turbine Alternator plants to optimize plant performance and undertaking effective maintenance work on HV & LV indoor substation equipment for the efficient operation of the system.

What you will be expected to do for successful and optimal performance:

  • Undertake preventative maintenance on the electrical system and apparatus of the power plants to ensure plant reliability.
  • Carry out electrical repairs involving diagnosis, dismantling, rectification of faults and assembling of equipment to sustain Company operations.
  • Carry out modification of defective components and equipment to adapt to new operating requirements.
  • Undertake the installation and commissioning of new equipment at designated sites.
  • Ensure that maintenance work is carried out in accordance with system and safety regulations to avoid accidents.
  • Compile detailed and informative maintenance sheets on time to facilitate good record keeping.
  • Carry out HT electrical switching on all power plants.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum craft certificate in electrical.
  • Minimum 3 years post qualifying experience.
  • A member of EIZ.

2. Technician – Civil Maintenance (CEC 9) (x1)

This role is responsible for undertaking on-site construction and maintenance works, including machining, fabrication, joinery, tiling, roofing, etc., in adherence to specifications and construction building regulations and standards.

What you will be expected to do for successful and optimal performance:

  • Interpret and understand construction drawings and specifications from supervisors.
  • Assist in carrying out assessments and measurements of infrastructural works.
  • Undertake works according to the work breakdown structures for construction,defects and maintenance works.
  • Coordinate delivery of personnel, materials, tools and equipment to work sites.
  • Record utilisation of materials, tools and equipment on site and all work instructions given by supervisors.
  • Carry out carpentry works and/or bricklaying activities involving fabrication/construction of roofs, shattering, fitting of doors, repair of chairs, tables, floor tiling, plastering, bricklaying, etc.
  • Undertake all works in a manner that ensures quality by adhering to specifications, safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain a site log for all construction activities on work sites.
  • Undertake any ad hoc activities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Enforce safety responsibility in the work teams by interpreting proper construction techniques and methods on work sites.
  • Ensure that work teams have proper PPE and safety measures are in place on work sites.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum craft certificate in construction related field that encompasses bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, etc.
  • Minimum 3 years post qualifying experience in the construction industry.
  • Relevant professional body membership.

Specific Competencies

Ability to:

  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understand the schedule of materials and work.
  • Understand technical specifications.
  • Organize materials, tools and equipment for work sites.
  • Use construction equipment.
  • Set out building construction works.

3. Technician – Mechanical Maintenance (CEC9) (x1)

This role is responsible for organizing and implementing activities concerned with the construction/maintenance of sewer and water reticulation systems of the built and civil infrastructure, including welding and fabrication activities in the department, ensuring that they are carried out to established engineering standards.

What you be expected to do for successful and optimal performance:

  • Interpret and understand construction drawings and specifications for mechanical and plumbing works from supervisors.
  • Assist in carrying out assessments and measurements of infrastructure and works.
  • Undertake works according to the work breakdown structures for construction and maintenance works.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials, tools and equipment to work sites.
  • Record utilisation of materials, tools and equipment on site and all work instructions given by supervisors.
  • Carry out welding and fabrication works, plumbing for sewer and water reticulation, repair of septic and soak away, etc.
  • Undertake all works in a manner that ensures quality by adhering to specifications, safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain a site log for all construction activities on work sites.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on hand tools, plant and equipment to avoid breakdowns.
  • Carry out installation, repair and maintenance work of plumbing, heating systems, fountains and swimming pools.
  • Undertake any other ad hoc activities as assigned by supervisors.
  • Adhere to good safety practices to prevent occupational hazards and downtime on sites and ensure good house/site keeping.
  • Enforce safety responsibility in the work teams by interpreting proper construction techniques and methods on work sites.
  • Ensure that work teams have proper PPE and safety measures are in place on work sites.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 school certificate.
  • Minimum craft certificate in plumbing.
  • Certificate in welding or similar qualification is an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in a machining role and in a setting of similar complexity.

Specific Competencies

Ability to:

  • Work from sketches, drawings, plans and specifications.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understand the schedule of materials and work.
  • Understand technical specifications.
  • Understand the use and maintenance of general hand tools and equipment.
  • Organize materials, tools and equipment for effective execution of maintenance works.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, and
  • Must have water reticulation knowledge.
