CEC Vacancies | Supervisor – Parks and Gardens (x1); Security Officer (x7); Technician – Machinist (x1)

We currently have career opportunities, to be based at our head office in Kitwe, in the following fields:

1. Supervisor – Parks and Gardens (CEC7) (x1)

The job holder will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing activities regarding routine landscape maintenance of grounds in all Company premises. Maintenance includes weed and vegetation control, waste collection, cleaning of drainages and pest control in all Company facilities. This position reports to the Senior Manager – Civil/Mechanical Maintenance.

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • Oversee the general maintenance of parks, gardens, golf course and playing fields, ensuring quality of works to specified standards.
  • Analyze requirements for materials, tools, equipment, machinery and personnel for maintenance of parks, gardens and ablution facilities.
  • Determine the needs of plants in terms of water, mulching and fertilizers. Use approved fertilizers and chemicals to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Supervise activities for the irrigation/mowing of lawns, cleaning of drainages and control of vegetation and pests.
  • Supervise bioremediation activities of all contaminated elements and ensure correct disposal of industrial and domestic wastes from Company premises.
  • Monitor and ensure that effective cleaning of offices and ablution facilities in all premises is done to required safety and health standards.
  • Maintain stock of chemicals and ensure supplies for maintenance and cleaning activities are always adequate and available.
  • Diagnose and treat plants of all diseases and ensure correct application of herbicides in play parks, golf course, etc.
  • Supervise activities for cleaning of fountains and swimming pools, including application of cleaning chemicals.
  • Undertake risk assessment before works, prepare risk registers and safety reports.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals in order not to contaminate the environment and personnel.
  • Analyze, specify and initiate materials, chemicals, tools and equipment procurement for all work activities.
  • Efficiently and effectively utilize resources on activities to optimize costs.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum advanced certificate in horticulture, agroforestry or the equivalent
  • 3 years post graduate experience.

Specific Competencies

  • Knowledge of maintenance operations concerned with facilities landscaping, maintenance and cleaning.
  • Knowledge in use and maintenance of tools, equipment and machinery used in maintenance of turf and other horticultural works.
  • Knowledge of various plant species and methods of tendering and management of plants.
  • Knowledge of various chemicals used in botanical processes as well as control of herbs and pests.

2. Security Officer (CEC10) (x7)

This role is responsible for carrying out a range of security duties such as surveillance, access security control, motor vehicle tracking and monitoring other security electronic systems in order to ensure the security of Company property. This position reports to the Senior Security Officer.

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • Effectively monitor events and patterns of behaviour using security equipment such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), motor vehicle tracking, drones, etc, to protect Company property/employees and to control costs.
  • Efficiently and effectively monitor all access points to Company premises to prevent unauthorized entry.
  • Maintain correct, accurate and timely logs of all security events monitored and captured on CCTV and other Company security systems on daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Detect security breaches within CEC operational areas and enforce regulations as appropriate.
  • Support prosecution in the courts of law of all cases of theft and vandalism involving Company materials.
  • Coach and monitor hired guards deployed on various CEC beats in to ensure effective and efficient guard-ship and monitoring duties and patrols.
  • Effectively communicate with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders whenever crime or security incidents are noticed or reported on the system.
  • Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and address these or escalate to superiors.
  • Demonstrate consistent behaviour in line with the Company’s values, HSE & Risk management policies, procedures and standards.
  • Create and maintain a safe and secure work environment through proactive risk identification, reporting and management.
  • Participate as an effective team member; working collaboratively with leaders, peers and relevant others (including from other teams) to achieve business goals.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Certificate in law and police duties or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in a security role.

Specific Competencies

  • Physical stamina to conduct observation and surveillance for long hours.
  • Ability to operate an electric surveillance system.
  • Proven ability to handle or use firearms.
  • Sound knowledge of criminal matters and procedure.
  • Oral communication skills.
  • Good report writing skills.

3. Technician – Machinist (CEC9) (x1)

This role is responsible for carrying out machining works to support maintenance of Company assets in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Key Accountabilities

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • Support maintenance works and projects by manufacturing specific equipment components in the required timeframe using workshop machines.
  • Undertake skimming and shaping works on mechanical components to the required specifications.
  • Ensure that drilling, milling and slotting tasks on mechanical components are accurately accomplished to meet required specifications.
  • Carry out required modifications on mechanical components to improve existing system equipment performance.
  • Engrave tugs for proper identification of equipment within the system.
  • Keep records to assist in work scheduling and costing purposes.
  • Carry out machining activities in the most effective and efficient manner to ensure correct performance all the time.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Minimum craft certificate in Machining.
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia.
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in a machining role and in a setting of similar complexity.
