CEC | Vacancy: Advisor – Procurement
The Copperbelt Energy Corporation PLC (CEC) is an independent power transmission and distribution Company with interests in closely linked businesses in Zambia and the African region.
CEC invites applications from suitably qualified, innovative and dynamic individuals to take up the position of ADVISOR – PROCUREMENT based at our Head Office in Kitwe and reporting to the Procurement Specialist.
Job Purpose
To procure and make available items ordered from suppliers so as to satisfy the needs of the user departments in conformity with the Company’s philosophy of “do it right the first time”.
Key Accountabilities
- Source and place orders for the required materials and services in a timely manner;
- Ensure that goods obtained are of the most competitive price and quality;
- Analyse quotations and bids and negotiate price reductions to ensure that prices offered conform to CEC requirements;
- Process high value orders by following approved/prescribed procurement procedures and advise customers on the status and queries raised by suppliers;
- Co-ordinate the movement of goods from overseas suppliers;
- Arrange the export of goods that go out for repair and other reasons and ensure that such goods are adequately insured against loss or damage;
- Ensure that all procured goods have appropriate documentation for smooth transit and customs formalities;
- Process payment for customs duty and other import and export levies;
- Evaluate and register contractors and suppliers;
- Assess the performance of suppliers annually and prepare required reports;
- Produce regular and accurate reports showing the status of all purchase requests submitted by end users and resolve all problems highlighted in those reports;
- Ability to use available Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in order to work effectively and efficiently & resolve basic queries from end users regarding the ERP;
- Maintain an orderly filing system for all key procurement data and information that might include supplier profiles and catalogues; and
- Prepare routine & adhoc reports for all procurement activities for management’s use.

- Proficiency in the use of ERP and Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Power Point, Excel).

- Ability to learn and adapt;
- Be honest and of high integrity;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, internal customers, suppliers/contractors, Customs Clearing Agents; and
- High degree of public relations as the job involves interacting with both internal and external parties.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing and Supply or a commercial related degree from a reputable institution;
- Graduate Diploma – Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply;
- At least three (3) years’ experience in a supply chain environment;
- Member of the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS); and
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
