Career Opportunities: Records Management Assistant; Technician – Metal Fabrication; Mechanical Fitter

We currently have career opportunities, to be based at our Head Office in Kitwe, in the following fields:

1. Records Management Assistant (01)

Grade: CEC9 | Contract Type: Permanent

The job holder will be responsible for providing administrative and organisational support towards the discharge of the Company’s records management function, which includes maintenance of Company records, archives, technical library and undertaking clerical records.

Key Accountabilities

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • Undertake records work, ensuring appropriate classification and storage of records in the Records Repositories.
  • Perform records collation, update records transmittal lists and assign file location numbers.
  • Attend to document retrieval requests.
  • Periodically appraise the main records repository to determine records that have outlived their relevance in line with the approved Company records retention and disposal schedules.
  • Participate in company-wide records management inspections to ensure compliance with the Company’s authorised procedures of record keeping.
  • Manage the technical library collection, undertake cataloguing of new books, data input into the library system, lending and discharging of books including issuance of reminders for overdue books.
  • Provide in-house photography services as required.
  • Support the Company identity card issuance process to eligible employees and contractors allowed to access Company premises.
  • Render scanning and photocopying services and keep appropriate records of requests for various services.
  • Adequately maintain the archives to meet employees’ and Company requirements.
  • Support the evaluation of records submitted for disposal by various departments of the Company.
  • Undertake all work activities in a manner that protects the environment, safety and health of fellow employees.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum Certificate in Library and Information Studies.
  • Minimum two years’ practical experience in a dynamic records management environment.

Specific Competencies

  • Knowledge of and experience in physical and electronic records management systems.
  • Knowledge of information classification and cataloguing.
  • Ability to work with various Information Communication Technologies.

2. Technician – Metal Fabrication (x2)

Grade: CEC9 | Contract Type: Permanent

This role will be responsible for fabricating and modifying mechanical system components in order to facilitate effective and cost-saving maintenance to help sustain Company operations.

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • Fabricate the required mechanical components within the specified time in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Carry out arc welding on mild steel and non-ferrous metals to effectively assemble components for full welding.
  • Undertake gas welding on sheet metals and earthing conductors in accordance with System Regulations.
  • Carry out required modification of mechanical system components to improve existing system equipment performance.
  • Compile detailed maintenance records to facilitate work scheduling and activity costing.
  • Support the department’s objective of achieving cost-control and savings by operating within the prescribed budget.
  • Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these or escalate to superiors.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Company’s HSE and risk management policies, procedures and standards.
  • Create and maintain a safe and secure work environment through proactive risk identification, reporting and management.
  • Utilise materials, tools and equipment efficiently to minimise resource wastage.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum Craft Certificate in Metal Fabrication.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-qualification experience in a context of similar complexity.
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia.

Specific Competencies

  • Knowledgeable in blueprints reading, casting and bending pieces and welding or bolting.
  • Ability to interpret fabrication drawings and draft sketches.
  • Knowledgeable in flame cutting, use of workshop equipment and various types of welding techniques and technologies.
  • Ability to read, understand and reference maintenance manuals.

3. Mechanical Fitter (x1)

Grade: CEC9 | Contract Type: Permanent

This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of a range of mechanical fixed plant, equipment and tools in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • Install and modify new and existing mechanical plant and equipment in accordance with technical standards, layout plans, drawings, manuals and regulatory requirements.
  • Dismantle and assemble mechanical plant and equipment using a range of hand-held, power, pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
  • Troubleshoot and carry out fault analysis investigation on a range of substation mechanical equipment to determine root causes of mechanical faults and breakdowns.
  • Perform regular running and static inspection of fixed mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Report faults and defects on mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Assist to deliver planned maintenance to drive safe and reliable system assets through diligent work execution and equipment improvements.
  • Repair and replace defective components on mechanical equipment to restore equipment to reliable functionality.
  • Actively participate in maintenance planning and support planning for spare requirements.
  • Compile detailed maintenance sheets in a proper and timely manner to facilitate record keeping.
  • Ensure maintenance sheet data is accurately captured on the Maintenance Enterprise Resource Planning tool.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Company’s HSE and risk management policies and standards.
  • Carry out all work tasks and assignments in strict compliance with the applicable HSE policies and standards.
  • Utilise materials, tools and equipment efficiently to minimise resource wastage.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum Craft Certificate in Mechanical Fitting.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the maintenance of fixed plant equipment and associated infrastructure in the extractive or electrical transmission and distribution industry.
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia.

Specific Competencies

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow work instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals and assembly drawings.
  • Hands-on experience and proficient use of maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge and experience in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, lubrication and power transmission including bearings, gearing, sprockets and couplings, fans, shaft alignment, bolting, hydraulic bolting and flange management.
  • Knowledge in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair and fault-finding of mechanical aspects and systems of high voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers and other equipment.
