The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) is an independent power supply, transmission, and distribution Company with interests in closely linked businesses, including fibre optic telecommunications, in Zambia and the Sub-Saharan African region.
CEC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, innovative and dynamic individuals to take up the position of Drafter – Electrical at our Head Office in Kitwe.
Job Purpose
The role renders a comprehensive electrical drafting and design service to facilitate the construction and maintenance of electrical engineering projects in strict compliance with relevant safety, health, legislative and environmental requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct initial site investigations in conjunction with Chief Drafter and Project Engineers to ensure complete understanding of the engineering requirements to facilitate the preparation of drawings right the first time.
- Create, edit and design electrical sketches, layouts and detailed construction drawings (single line, electrical equipment and wiring arrangements) to meet specifications utilizing CAD tool in compliance with international standards and other codes of practice.
- Prepare survey drawings for transmission lines in conformity with required specifications to produce line plans and profiles.
- Interpret manufacturers’ drawings so as to draw wiring and schematic drawings.
- Update drawings of transmission lines, protection and metering schemes and other substation equipment according to existing conditions.
- Prepare cost estimates, list of materials and bill of quantities to facilitate the preparation of project budget.
- Conduct plant visits to observe manufacture, construction and fabrication works to ensure compliance to the working drawings.
Technical Skills
- Thorough working knowledge of Automated Computer-Assisted Drawing (CAD) Software, CAD standards and MS Office application.
- Possess conceptualization and graphic skills to visualize finished drawings and assigned projects.
- Sound knowledge of geometry, engineering concepts and terminology.
- Familiar with design parameters related to high voltage electrical power system design, engineering techniques and substation equipment.
- Knowledge of standard engineering drafting practices, procedures and methods.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum: Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Desirable: Diploma in Electrical Engineering (an engineering rafting qualification will be an added advantage).
- Accreditation: Registered Technologist of Engineering Institution of Zambia.
- Experience: 3 years’ progressive experience in electrical engineering drafting and design.
