The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) is an independent power supply, transmission, and distribution Company with interests in closely linked businesses, including fibre optic telecommunications, in Zambia and the Sub-Saharan African region.
CEC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, innovative and dynamic individuals to take up the position of Metering Technician at our Head Office in Kitwe.
Job Purpose
To undertake installations, maintenance and repairs on metering equipment and test instruments in order to ensure correct operation on all metering infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
- Calibrate energy meters to ensure that they operate within the required accuracies.
- Undertake repairs and calibration of high voltage and low voltage test instruments to ensure metering availability for the effective maintenance of primary equipment.
- Install and assist in commissioning of metering schemes for the purpose of maintaining and upgrading existing systems.
- Carry out condition based maintenance of energy meters, alarms schemes, summation equipment and voltage selection equipment to ensure correct operations at all times.
- Carry out metering activities in the most efficient and effective manner to ensure that the same are performed right the first time.
- Participate and attend to defects for the prepayment metering platforms and offer assistance to customers having difficulties with re-charge activities.
- Carry out repairs to load control circuits for CEC system control office and customers in order for healthy state of circuits at all times for effective load management and peak lopping activities.
- Ensure that the Measurands to control office are accurate at all times for timely decision making in the control room.
Technical Skills
- Considerable knowledge of wiring, diagrams, schematics and electrical symbols.
- Thorough knowledge of the mechanism of self-contained electric meters.
- Proven ability to test and repair electric meters and to perform simple calculations accurately and quickly.
- Hands-on skill in basic electricity and electronics as applied to electrical wiring, power and meters.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum: Grade 12 Certificate.
- Desirable: Technician Certificate in Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation.
- Accreditation: Registered Technician of Engineering Institution of Zambia.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
